Motor Skills and ArtClownfish Craft - Your student will need the clownfish outline (print it from the hyperlink above), orange paint ( we used watercolors), a black marker and tape (we used painter's tape). After printing the clownfish outline use the tape to make stripes. Then, have your student paint the rest of the clownfish orange. Once the paint is dry, add an eye using the black marker. Finally, an adult can carefully remove the tape and cut out the clownfish. Please see picture for reference.
Jellyfish Craft - Your student will need a paper plate, scissors, a hole punch, string/yarn/ribbon, beads/noodles/buttons, dot paints/markers. To prep this craft cut a paper plate in half and make a few hole punches along the straight side. Tie yarn (or whatever you have) to each hole punch spot. To make it easier to string the beads I wrapped tape to the end of the yarn. Have your student dot paint or color in the jellyfish then have them string on beads, buttons or even noodles to each tentacle. Be sure to tie on the last bead so they don't fall off. Once the jellyfish drys, add eyes (we used eye stickers but you could draw them or use google eyes). Please see picture for reference.

2020-2021
2020-2021 school year
Semester 1
Day 1
We are so excited to start school on Monday. We can't wait to meet and get to know your little ones! For the first day of school, preschoolers may have one adult accompany them into the building to see our classroom and say a quick goodbye. For safety reasons we are asking parents not to linger/congregate in the school or near the preschool doors. Also, please remember to take your child’s temperature before leaving the house and fill out the Preschool Daily Health Check each morning. Adults coming into the building on the first day will also need to complete this form for themselves as well. For additional information I have linked the Welcome to Preschool presentation from preschool orientation.

Week 2
Our First Week
We had a wonderful first week of school. Your little ones had a blast going out to recess and to gym class. We worked on, and will continue to work on, our procedures and routines. We read many stories about the first day of school jitters and talked about how the characters feel. We also learned a few new songs and had our first few students be the calendar helpers in class.
On Friday, I sent home a getting to know you page for the students to complete. Each student picked out their favorite color card stock for the project. At home please decorate the page with your child's name and their favorite things (family pictures, favorite food, characters, stickers, etc). If possible, please limit the decorations to items that are flat. I will be laminating the project once they are returned and share them with the class. Also, please turn in any missing paperwork as soon as possible! Finally, our first book order went home on Friday and is due 9/03/2020.

Week 3
Week Three: September 7th-11th
We had a wonderful week reading stories about going to school; we compared the character’s school experiences to our own. We continue to work on our routines and will discuss classroom rules next week. We have started working with our Handwriting Without Tears writing curriculum and have learned a few songs, “Mat Man” and “Tap Tap Tap”. We have also started a few of the pre-writing pages and worked on writing the number 1.
There is no school on Monday this week! We will work on the theme of “ALL About Me”, the number 1 and the letter Ll. In religion we will learn about Jesus the Good Shepherd and continue to practice our prayers (Our Father, Grace and the End of the Day Prayer) Last week, I sent home a getting to know you page for the students to complete. Week four: September 14th-18th
We had lots of fun getting to know our friends in class. Each student shared their "all about me pages" and we enjoyed learning about each student's families and favorite things. We read many stories about how each one of us is special in our own unique way. We completed self portraits which will become part of our "Class Mix-up Book". In the book students can flip between different heads, bodies and legs of their classmates to make a mixed-up person. In Children's Liturgy we learned about how, as our "Good Shepherd", Jesus cares for us and protects us.
This week our focus is on friendship, working as a team and sharing. We will also work on the letter Ff, the number 2 and the square shape. On Tuesday, September 15th we will celebrate "Dot Day." We will read the story "The Dot" which focuses on the "growth mindset", which is the belief that if we keep trying we can accomplish anything. On Tuesday, please have your student dress in something with dots or a circle on it to celebrate the day. This week in religion we will learn about how God know us each by name and continue to practice our prayers.

week 5
Week Five: September 21st- 25th
We had a great week learning about what it means to be a good friend and practiced sharing and taking turns. We worked on the letter Ff and the number 2 while introducing out first shape, a square. We learned that God knows each one of us and knows our names. We also practiced tracing our names and used letter beads to spell our names.
Next week we will focus on our feelings and emotions. We will read many stories about feelings and will try to put ourselves in the character's shoes and discuss how we might feel if we were put in the same situations. We will work on the letter Ee and continue to learn about squares and the number 2. In religion we will focus on “Jesus The Good Shepard” and how he takes care of his flock.
Just a few reminders: please remember to pack a snack (full-day students need 2 snacks per day) and water bottle for your student each day. Per licensing rules, we ask that water bottles only contain water. Also, remember to pack a full change of clothing for your student (e.g., shirt, pants, underwear, socks and a spare pair of shoes if possible). These clothing items should be placed in a ziplock bag and remain in your child's backpack until needed. We love to have fun outside and we do get a little messy sometimes. Plus, from time to time we still have accidents, it’s always nice to have a fresh set of clothes to change into.
This coming Thursday, September 24th is picture day. Many parents like to have their student dress up on this day. Dress up clothing is not always the easiest to manage though. We kindly ask that you pack a spare set of clothes for the day if your student can’t manage their outfit or if you would rather the outfit not get messy. Luckily, we usually have our pictures take first thing in the morning which allows us time to change if needed before we start our day. 😊

We will work on the letter Ii, the number 4, review the shapes we have learned so far and introduce the color red. In religion we will continue to focus on the creation story.

Week 9
Week nine: October 19th-23rd
This week we have had lots of fun learning about fire safety. We read stories and created firefighter hats and fire rescue dogs. We learned about fire safety equipment around out school, did a fire safety scavenger hunt and did a practice fire drill at school. To reinforce our fire safety learning with your student it would be a good idea to do a practice fire drill at home and pick a family meeting place outside the home.
This coming week our theme will be pumpkins. We will have many fun activities involving pumpkins and we will learn about the letter Uu, the number five, circles and the color red. In religion we will continue to study the creation story.
Just a few quick reminders, please be sure to pack snack and a water bottle each day for your student. Please keep in mind that water bottles should only contain water per our childcare licensing rules. As the weather begins to get colder it would be a good idea to check that your student’s ziploc of extra clothing is updated with warmer clothing. Also, with the weather getting colder please sending your student to school with a warm coat, hat and mittens is a good idea.
Thank you to all the families that have donated items to our classroom. We really appreciate it! If you are looking to make donations, we are always looking for disinfectant and hand wipes, foaming hand soap, hand sanitizer and our amazon wish list is posted above.

Week 10
Week ten: October 26th- 30th
We are excited to celebrate Halloween this week. We will be working on the number 5, orange, the circle shape and reviewing the letters we have already learned. We will also do a pumpkin investigation this week, help carve a pumpkin and vote on what our jack-o-lantern's face will look like. This week in religion we will begin learning about Saints and how to be good disciples of Jesus.
Our Halloween party will be on Thursday! Students should come to school wearing their costumes. Please don’t bring costume masks or accessories to school (ex- fairy wand, sword, police walkie-talkie, etc). We also ask that you have your student use the bathroom before leaving the house; we will still do our usual bathroom breaks; but we know that some costumes can be tricky to manage when using the bathroom. Since we cannot have volunteers for the party, we will be sure to take lots of pictures and share them on the Seasaw app.
This week there are all school half-days on Wednesday (10/28) and Thursday (10/29), and we have no school on Friday (10/30). On the half-days, Preschool students will be dismissed at 11:15 AM to allow some time before the K-8 carline at 11:30 AM. The half-days are for Y5-8th grade conferences; our preschool conferences will be held mid November. Also, don’t forget to sign up for a time to attend the Spooktacular Drive-Thru Trunk or Treat event Friday, October 30th from 4-6 PM.

We had an exciting week celebrating Halloween with your little ones. We hope you and your families were able to keep the celebration going and had a fun and safe Halloween. This week we will shift gears and our focus will be fall and the saints. We will also learn about the letter Cc, numbers 5 and 6, orange the color and review the shapes we have learned.
In your student's folder this week will be a family project to decorate a turkey feather. Be sure to include your families name on the front of the feather. For this project we will team up with Kindergarten to make a marvelous turkey display in the early childhood wing. Please return your turkey feathers by 11.10.2020. Book orders for November will also go home as well with the last day to order 11.10.2020.
As the weather gets colder please pack your student all the appropriate winter gear. If you wish winter gear can be kept at school for the week if you would like; just let us know your preference. It might also be helpful if you have an extra reusable grocery bag laying around to use this for your child’s winter belongings. Please also label all your child gear with their name.
Thank you for all that you do!

Semester 2
Week 20
Week Twenty: January 18th-22nd (MLK-no School Monday)
We had fun reading many different versions of the Gingerbread story. We loved hearing about how each gingerbread cookie took on the other characters in the story. Our class favorite was the Gingerbread Girl because she outsmarts the fox, makes it across the river and does not get eaten as a snack. Your students did a few crafts, counted the amount of gingerbread cookies on their ten frames and matched them to numerals (1-10). We continue to work on counting and number recognition. We visited the Chapel this week for liturgy of the word and learned a new song “Jesus Loves Me” and a new prayer “The Hail Mary”. We also enjoyed meeting Noah on zoom this week and are excited for him to start this week!

Our Last Day...
We are also thrilled to let you know that for our last day of school we will be able to allow families to celebrate with us! We can now have two family members attend the celebration. We will be following CDC guidelines and guests must wear masks if they are in the building. Students should arrive to school at the normal morning drop off time. We ask that families join us at 10:00 AM for a short presentation at the early childhood playground. Students will sing a song and receive their end of the year awards and goodie bags. Following the presentations, we will have a quick snack and students can play on the playground for a bit. Our celebration will end at 10:45 AM to allow time for the other preschool classroom to have access to the playground area for their own celebration. We encourage you to take your student with you if you can after our celebration but understand this might not work for all families. Please know either way this is a half day for preschool students and dismissal will be at 11:30 AM for those that may stay after the celebration.

Week Thirty Six Overview
2021-2022
Semester 1
Week 1
Our First Day!
We had a great 1st day of school! Today we began learning the routines of our classroom. We also got a chance to go outside and had a great time with Mr. V for gym class. A red folder went home today in your students backpack that should go back and forth from home to school each day. In the folder today your student has their first “homework assignment,” an all about me page. There is a piece of cardstock for you and your child to decorate with their name and all their favorite things (examples: pictures of family, favorite characters, toys, stickers, etc.) Please make sure that all items on this page are flat because we will be laminating them. Throughout the next few weeks students will have a chance to share their pages with the class.
If you have not brought one in already please bring in a Ziploc bag with a full change of clothing for your student. Please do this ASAP. These will live in their backpacks and allow for easy access if they are needed. They will also be available for you to switch out and update clothing seasonally. For some of our younger students please practice and foster independent bathroom skills at home. Practice and let them pull up their own pants; pulling up underwear first and then shorts/pants second.

What to Bring Tomorrow ...
- Backpack
- Water bottle (labeled with your child’s name)
- For water bottles, it is best if they do not have an open lid but rather a straw or spout to drink from. This helps limit spills throughout the day. Thank you!
- Snack (only one snack is needed each day this week: no nut or tree nut products for now)
- 2 masks (one to wear for the day and one or two extras to store in their backpack)
- Masks are now required at school; please practice wearing it and putting it on at home. I will be attaching a lanyard to your students mask tomorrow. This will allow for easier transitions from snack and recess where we can have mask breaks. This lanyard should be detached and put on their mask for the next day. Thank you for your help with this!
- A Ziploc bag with a full change of clothing (labeled with your child’s name.)
- Preschool paperwork (ALL PAPERWORK NEEDS TO BE RETURNED ASAP)
- St. Regis Preschool Forms (all pages completed…I think Mrs. Terzich sent this to you as well)
- Preschool Handbook (just the last page)
Week 2
Week 2: August 30th-September 3rd
We hope everyone had a fun and relaxing weekend! Our focus this week will be to continue to learn a little more about each other and work on learning the rules and routines of our classroom and school. We are also excited that Georgia will be joining our class this week. Welcome Georgia!
This week we only have four days of school (no school Friday) and full days start this week. Half-day students will still dismiss at 11:30 AM and Full-day students will dismiss at 2:45 PM. Please remember that if your child has siblings throughout the building we would like you to park in the spots between the church and the school near the preschool doors. If you only have a preschooler proceed around the preschool carline loop and pull up to the building and as far down to the stop sign and then come and grab your student. This should allow our carline to run a little smoother by clearing cars out who only have a preschooler.

Week 3: September 6th-10th
Dear Families,
We had a wonderful week! Your students were rockstars for the first week of full days. We continue to practice our routines and next week will work on building a set of classroom rules together. We are slowly adding more academics to our play. We will also start to work in our handwriting books and math journals. Towards the end of the week, we will also start some assessments; starting with letter recognition to get a baseline of where each student is.
If you still need the Seesaw information to link to your student, I have added the Seesaw link here. Once you click the link just find your students' name to link to their portfolio and our class announcements. I believe that you will want the family seesaw app to view your students' updates.

9/06/2021- No School-Labor Day
9/10/2021- Book Orders are Due!

Week 3 Overview
Week 4
Week 4: September 13th-17th
Dear Families,
Thank you for your patience during virtual learning this past week. Your kiddos did an amazing job, and I was so happy to see them in person this morning! Please send in all virtual learning work in your student’s red folder if you have not done so. You can keep the glue stick, crayons, and playdoh for at home. We can use these items if we must go virtual again. Fingers crossed that this is not the case.
For this week we will be learning about each other with the theme “All About Me”. If you have not done so already complete with your student, his or her getting to know me page and return this week. If you need a new piece of cardstock and direction page let me know. We will also work on the number 2 and the color red.
This week we will be reading the story “The Dot”; it is an inspiring tale that focuses on growth mindset. The idea that we are all special in our own way and we can do anything that we put our minds to. We will also be celebrating “Dot Day” on September 15th; students should try to wear some type of dotted clothing that day. Our centers and crafts will also revolve around the story as well.
Important Dates:
9/15/2021- Dot Day
9/14/2021- SAC Meeting
9/23/2021- Picture Day (this is a Thursday)
9/24/2021- St. Regis Fun Run ( see flyer going home today)

Week 5
Week 5: Septemeber 20th-24th
Dear Families,
We have had a good week so far. Our theme this week is friendship, and we are reviewing the numbers 1 and 2 and we continue to work on the color red. We are still sharing our all about me pages and are learning more about each other. We also continue to add a little bit more each week to our daily routines. Don't forget Thursday is picture day!
Fun Run
Don’t forget that the fun run is this Friday. Today in your student’s folder will go home any prizes they have earn from your generous donation for the playground update. On Friday, please have your student wear comfy clothes and gym shoes. We will be passing out Fun Run t-shirts for students to wear Friday morning.
Preschool Drop Off and Pick Up
To help foster independence and for smoother transitions in the morning please drop your student with their teacher by the preschool doors. At this point in the school year parents should not be coming in the building. I do understand that sometimes there are rough mornings and on occasion you may need to enter the building; if entering the building please remember that masks are required.
I also know that carline pick-up has been a little bit of a headache. Know that we are working on a plan and more information should be coming soon from administration with an updated procedure for preschool pick-up. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we figure out the best course of action.
Field Trip
Please mark your calendars our class along with the Y5 students will be going to the Troy Nature Center on October 20th. On this fun fall field trip, we will be learning about apples and the process of making apple cider. I wanted to give you all a heads-up because for our field trip they are family field trips; we require that one adult attend per student/family. Please look for more information to be coming soon.

Week6
Week 6: September 27th- October 1st
Dear Families,
We have another exciting week planned for your little ones. We will be learning and exploring feelings and emotions this week as well as working on the number 3, red and the circle shape. We will read many stories that talk about our feelings and our emotions. We will also do a few crafts including a feelings monster and an emoji face.
In Liturgy of the Word this week we read the story “I Can Only Imagine”. It’s a tale about a little boy’s curiosity about heaven and what he imagines it might be like. We talked about and imagined what if God had a pet what might it be or what do we think his favorite color is? Our class also learned a new prayer “The Hail Mary”.
Later this week I will send out another email about our field trip. It should be a fun day learning about how apple cider is made! Students will also be able to have a glass of apple cider at the end along with a treat.
Thank you to all the families that have donated extra supplies, stories, and snacks to our classroom. We really appreciated and cannot wait to use these fun items!
Important Dates:
10/4- Feast of St. Francis
10/18- No School (AOD PD Day)
10/20- Troy Nature Center Field Trip… we will meet you there!
10/27- Half-day K-8 Conferences

Week 6 Overview
Week 7
Week 7: October 4th- October 8th
Happy Monday! Today we officially welcome our new friend Sonny to our classroom! We had a fun Children’s Liturgy outside today where we learned about the creation story. We then focused on the animals God created and talked about St. Francis of Assisi and how he devoted his life to caring for and protecting animals.
This week’s theme is fire safety, we will be doing a fire safety scavenger hunt around the school and having the Bloomfield Township Fire Department come to St. Regis for a visit. We will also create some fire safety inspired crafts and we will be sending home a fire safety activity for your student to complete and send back to school. We are going to work on the number 4, and this month we will work on orange as our color.
For afternoons students I did send home our September Math Journals. There were some pages towards the end we did not get to. These pages can be used as extra practice at home; but please don’t feel like you are obligated to complete them.
All School Half-Day Dismissal
We have a few days coming up this month where the whole school has a half-day. When this happens to alleviate some of the congestion in the parking lot, we dismiss at 11:15 AM.
Important Dates:
10/4- Feast of St. Francis

Week 8: October 11th-15th
Dear Families,
We had another wonderful week in preschool. The students enjoyed learning all about fire safety and we even pretended that we were on fire and practiced by stopping dropping and rolling. The students also loved learning about fire safety from the Bloomfield Township Firefighters as well.
This coming week we will be learning all about apples and ask that each student brings in one apple on Monday, October 11th. We will be doing apple prints and crafts, reading apple stories, and on Wednesday we will be making apple sauce. Students will also be doing an apple tasting to see what color apples taste the best.
Carline Afternoon Pick Up
Our new carline procedure seems to be working well. Please be patient as we work out a few more kinks. Please remember

Halloween Party
At this time parents are not allowed in the building for classroom celebrations. Our first classroom party will be on October 28th. Students should come to school dressed in their costumes. Please make sure that your student uses the restroom before coming to school on this day. This will help to minimize the chances of having a bathroom accident. We also ask that students leave accessories and face masks at home (it is just too hard with the required cloth face mask). Additionally, these items are sometimes small and can easily be lost or misplaced. For the party students will be trick or treating with their classmates. Please bring in a non-food item to pass out to the class; we have 16 students in the classroom. We will be sure to take pictures and send them out via SeeSaw.

- If you are not waiting for a sibling: Please go to the furthest section as you are entering the parking lot.
- If you are waiting for siblings: First find a parking spot within the area OR fill in the remaining two sections. We have moved staff cars out of our section to allow for more parking spots.
- The section from the stop sign to the preschool doors is for auction prize parking only.
- We use three lanes for dismissal, the lane closest to the school is now ONLY for preschool parents. As you are pulling into spots, please make sure not to block this lane.
- Parking on Lincoln is not allowed.
- Only turn right when leaving our parking lot! This keeps traffic flowing as much as possible!

Week 10
Week 10: October 25th-29th
This week we will continue to work on the theme of pumpkins and add in a little Halloween fun! We will do a pumpkin investigation, carve a pumpkin as a class and we will work on our fine motor skills by hammering golf tees into pumpkins. We will also work on the letter H, the number 6, and the square shape as well as the color orange.

Spooktacular Parade
Back by popular demand is our Halloween Parade! On October 28th the early childhood wing (Preschool-K) will be participating. Parents are not allowed in the building but can join us outside. Our parade will start at 11:00 AM. We will first parade in the school up to the 4th grade classrooms and then go outside at the Lincoln Lobby doors (also known as the walker doors by the bike racks).
We suggest that all preschool parents follow our regular carline procedures. If you are waiting for an older sibling, it might be a good idea to park in one of the parking spots by the early childhood doors. Having some families park will be important because we cannot block the regular flow of traffic for the preschool carline. After, parking your car, walk over to the grassy area on Lincoln to view the parade. My suggestion would be to arrive no later than 10:45AM; this will allow you to get your vehicle situated and make your way to the viewing area before the start of the parade. Preschool students will parade and then come back in the building to collect their belongings and we will dismiss like normal immediately following the parade.

Week 16 December 6th-10th
Dear Families,
I know for me the events of this past week have stirred up many emotions for me both as an educator but also as a mom. I know I have hugged my son a little tighter this week and counted my blessings. Thank you for entrusting St. Regis but more specifically Ms. Jenkins and I with the care and education of your young learners. We truly love each one of your kiddos and see them as an extension of our family. With that said though we will not be discussing this past week’s current events in class. If the topic does arise, we will defer to you as your child’s parent to discuss the events as you find appropriate for your family.
This week we will be focusing on the holy family and the nativity story. Our letter for the week will be the letter O. We will also work on the color purple, the oval shape and the number 11.

The Christmas tree project will be sent home tomorrow.

wanted to thank all the families for their generosity this Christmas. You truly spoiled Ms. Jenkins and me! We are so blessed to have such wonderful families. We hope that you and your families enjoyed some family fun time over break. We are so glad to be back at school and have loved seeing everyone and hearing all the fun stories about what you have been up to.
This week we will focus on the gingerbread man. We will read a few versions of the classic tale and compare the similarities and differences. We will also have both literacy and math centers which incorporate the gingerbread theme. Students will “bake” gingerbread cookies in the dramatic play area as well as create some gingerbread crafts. This week we will work on letter is G, the number 12, the blue, and review the shapes that we have learned. In religion we will learn about the three wisemen and their travels to Bethlehem to meet our savior Jesus Christ.
Also, today in your student’s backpack will go home a new folder. Our take home folders will now be purple. The old ones were a little tattered… so, we decided to swap out for new one to start the new year off!

Dear Families
We had a great week reading many different versions of the gingerbread man. Most students really enjoyed listening to “The Ninjabread Man” and “The Gingerbread Girl”. We also “baked’ cookies in the dramatic play area and many students had fun retelling the story using the pretend gingerbread cookies. Then on Friday we did a gingerbread letter hunt and the students each helped decorate a portion of our gingerbread house.
This week we will focus on the order of events in “The Mitten” story as well as learning about the characters and making predictions. We will also continue to work on the number 12, the color blue, and introduce the letter Ss.
